Biography

I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education (1984, 1997) from the University of Alberta. I also completed my Bachelor of Laws (1987) at the University of Alberta and my Masters degree in Law (2008) at York University (Osgoode Hall Law School). My LL.M. thesis focused on dispute resolution and violence in intimate partner relationships.

I have been in private practise in both Alberta and BC for many years. I have also worked as a family lawyer for BC Legal Aid; as Ministerial Assistant to the Attorney General of BC ; as a legislative consultant for the Alberta government; and as a lawyer with Alberta Court Services. I have taught a variety of legal courses to students over the past 20 years at various schools including: the University of Alberta, the University of BC, the University of Victoria, and Vancouver Community College. I have been a Tutor with Athabasca University in the legal studies department since 2007.

I first registered as a student with Athabasca University in the 1970s and have taken several AU courses. As someone who has been both a student and an instructor at AU, I aim to make learning an enjoyable and valuable experience.
